This research group is located at the Department of Philosophy at the University of Pretoria. The research of this group focuses on machine ethics, the ethics of social robotics, neuro-ethics and data ethics, as well as research around policy-making for AI and sustainability in Africa and trustworthy AI. Current themes focused on include, but are not limited to, the ethics of automated weapon systems, the ethics of mind uploading and the extended mind, the conditions for and possibility of artificial morality and personhood, robot rights, the ethics of sex robots, fair machine learning, human dignity as a driver for human-centered AI, and AI and children. This research group organises a bi-annual AI for Society Symposium Series.
