Dr Irene Nandutu and Mbithe Nzomo were recently awarded with L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science Awards. Their award ceremony took place in Cotonou, Benin on 10 December 2024 and was attended by 250 distinguished guests including eminent scientists and prominent figures from across the continent, representatives of the government of Benin, and representatives of the Fondation L’Oréal and UNESCO.
Irene and Mbithe are both affiliated with Adaptive and Cognitive Systems (ACS) Lab at the University of Cape Town. Selected in a rigorous review process from an applicant pool of 788, Irene and Mbithe are awarded for the scientific excellence of their research, their leadership skills, and their community impact.
