Louise Leenen
is an associate professor in the Department of Computer Science at the University of the Western Cape (since 2019) and an NRF C1-rated researcher. She has extensive academic and research experience in Artificial Intelligence, Mathematical Modelling, and Problem Structuring, with a particular focus on Cybersecurity applications.

Before joining UWC, she was a Principal Researcher in the Cyber Defence Research Group at the CSIR and previously lectured at UNISA and several universities in Australia. Her academic contributions include supervising postgraduate students, acting as an external examiner, reviewing for international journals, and holding leadership roles in national and international conferences, serving as Programme Chair (2015, 2019) and Co-Chair (2018).

She has industry experience through leading an Australian Postgraduate Award Industry Grant project (2004–2007), where she developed optimisation systems for steel manufacturing. She holds a Master’s degree in Operations Research and a PhD in Artificial Intelligence (Constraint Programming), with specialised training in combinatorial optimisation using ILOG.

Prof Leenen is also a founding member and former Chair (2013–2019) of the IFIP Working Group 9.10 on ICT Uses in Peace and War, a global network of experts from 15 countries.
